The 2020 One & Only Series presents:

Artemisia’s Intent

written and directed by Melissa Moschitto

Starring Mariah Freda

February 7 & 8, 2020 @ 7:30pm

The 2020 One & Only Series presents Artemisia’s Intent, written and directed by Melissa Moschitto and starring Mariah Freda.  Created with source material ranging from the 1612 rape trial of Baroque painter Artemisia Gentileschi, to Taylor Swift's assault trial of 2017, this solo show stars Mariah Freda in a performance that Hi! Drama calls "fiery, smart, and appealing."

Winner of the "Best Solo Drama" at the 2018 FRIGID Festival in NYC, Artemisia's Intent delivers a captivating physical performance to unearth the life, work, and words of 17th century painter, Artemisia Gentileschi. This is startling portrait of a woman caught at the intersection of power, assault, and art, unmasking power structures one gripping

masterpiece at a time.

“...a powerful parallel to our current cultural moment” --Culture Catch

"The Anthropologists charge forward with humor, intensity, and the madness of the moment."                         --The Theatre Times

Melissa Moschitto and Mariah Freda will also lead an Artist-taught workshop for performers and writers called Rogue Devising, on Saturday February 8, 1-4pm

This Artist-taught workshop guides participants through a dynamic process that promotes collaboration and provocation. Melding source material, physical theatre techniques and visual storytelling to create the first stages of a new performance, this workshop is ideal for performers, directors, writers, dramaturgs and designers. Previous devising experience is encouraged but not necessary. Above all, we are looking for a willingness to explore, invent and engage in the critiquing process.

ABOUT THE ANTHROPOLOGISTS:  New York City based The Anthropologists is dedicated to the collaborative creation of investigative theatre that inspires action. Celebrating their 11th year, their work has been described as “eerie and weird in the best way” (Culturebot) and “incisive, even necessary work for the present moment.” (Culture Catch).
