This is an event that recalls and invites you to know the most popular and native dishes of the Dominican Republic, a 5-course dinner, where we will take a bite to the stories and flavors behind the present and the colonial past, of this island that has one of the oldest recipes of the old world encounter with the new world.


Menu:

Small bites

  • Pickled vegetables with cassava cracker (fusion)
  • Potato and beat mix salad(traditional)
  •  Sea food salad (Salpicon) (traditional)
  • Dominican beef pate traditional)
  • Sweet plantain cake, beef, cheese and cilantro (traditional)

 

Sorbet to clean palate (Fusion)

 

 Main plates

  • Chenchen (polenta) with red beans and stewed chicken, steamed salad and  yuca fritters (traditional colonial past)
  • Sancocho Dominicano (traditional soup with meat, tubers and vegetables, slow cook 6 -7 hours, lemon, cilantro and avocado (traditional colonial past)


Why Platano Power?

"Plátano power" is the phrase used by Dominican baseball players to talk about the strength of their arms when they hit the ball. The plantain has a rich history and there are many ways to cook, it's one of the most representative dishes of our Island, because it was crucial for survive to the colonization and to the slavery.


About the host:

Elka Diaz was born and raised in the Dominican Republic and describes herself as an explorer and wanderer. She has lived in countries all around the world, from Thailand to Germany and many places in between. She has been in the United States for just about a year and enjoys sharing her culture through her cooking, dance and visual arts.
